Mewstone Vineyard

Mewstone Vineyard lies on the banks of the D’Entrecasteaux Channel in the farmland of Flowerpot. The gently north-facing slopes capture the cool southern sunshine to produce premium winemaking grapes. The vineyard is protected from the harsh prevailing westerly winds by the hills that rise quickly from the water. The soils are predominantly duplex soils formed on Jurassic dolerite. This consists of loam-textured topsoil over a sandy loam horizon on clay subsoil.

The Lost Captain

Unique restaurant and taphouse.

‘Twas 1791, the expedition to find one lost captain set sail. The intrepid captain Huon de Kermadec was to lead the search aboard the fair ship Esperance to places thus far unseen by Europeans. Whilst the lost captain was never found, much of the new world was. The lost captain would disappear into the pages of history unread. But, without his misadventures there would be no here, and so to the lost captain, wherever he may rest, we raise a glass.

Signature experiences in Hobart and beyond

Peppina

Big-hearted Italian hospitality. Relaxed dining. Generosity and seasonality. Tasmanian produce.

Peppina draws inspiration from the Italian way of celebrating food, family and friends in a space that is made for dining trattoria-style. The kitchen is central to the open, expansive space, surrounded by handmade furniture, artisan brickwork, leather booths and abundant history. The intersection of the heritage 1840’s building of St Mary’s Hospital and the contemporary architectural overlay are brought together under the enclosed glass roof.

MONA Museum

Mona is the playground and megaphone of David Walsh, who grew up in Tassie (just down the road from Mona), dropped out of uni, played cards, won, did some other stuff, and opened a small museum of antiquities to which no one came. He declared it a triumph and decided to expand. The result is Mona, a temple to secularism, rationalism, and talking crap about stuff you really don’t know very much about. We won’t tell anyone. Come and play.

The Agrarian Kitchen

All good things evolve over time and The Agrarian Kitchen is no exception. It all began back in 2008 when Rodney Dunn and Séverine Demanet opened The Agrarian Kitchen Cooking School and Farm within their home in The Old Schoolhouse in Lachlan. It was borne from a longing to connect back to the earth, and to grow and cook authentic food with real ingredients. It has welcomed guests from around the world to share in this experience, for good food is even better when shared.
